Couples Therapy in Boulder, Colorado
Helping couples move beyond painful cycles and rediscover the connection that brought them together.
If You’re Unsure Where to Go From Here
Most couples don't come to therapy because they stopped loving each other. They come because somewhere along the way, they stopped feeling understood.
The conversations become the same.
The hurt gets bigger.
The distance grows.
And eventually both people begin protecting themselves instead of reaching for one another. Both people know something is off, but they can't see a way forward.
Emotional Connection: Finding Your Way Back to Each Other
Relationships can bring up some of our strongest emotions—hurt, fear, frustration, longing, and the deep desire to feel understood. You are two whole beings trying to merge lifestyles and live side-by-side.
When those emotions show up, we’ll work to create space to slow down and pay attention to what is underneath them. We’ll explore the feelings, needs, and experiences that are often harder to express, while making room for both partners to feel seen and heard.
We also look at what is happening in the body. Those are the moments that can tell you what really needs attention between you and your partner, and what needs more care within yourself.
Communication: Learning to Stay Connected Through Difficult Moments
One of the most common reasons couples seek therapy is because conversations that once felt easy now end in frustration, defensiveness, or silence—leaving both partners feeling misunderstood and alone.
In our work together, we slow those moments down and look beneath the words to understand what’s really happening.
Often, conflict isn’t just about the dishes, parenting, or who said what—it’s about deeper questions we all carry in relationships:
Do I matter to you?
Can you understand me?
Am I safe with you?
As you begin to understand the emotions, protective patterns, and nervous system responses shaping your interactions, you and your partner can move toward greater compassion, connection, and intention—creating a relationship where both partners feel safe to be honest, repair after conflict, and keep choosing each other, even in difficult moments.
Patterns: Understanding the Cycles That Keep You Stuck
Most couples have moments where they find themselves stuck in the same cycle.
The same argument.
The same hurt.
The same behaviors.
Therapy offers a space to understand these patterns with curiosity instead of blame. We look at where these reactions come from, what they are trying to protect, and how new ways of responding can begin to emerge.
A Whole-Person Approach to Couples Therapy
Every relationship is shaped by two unique histories, experiences, and perspectives.
The ways you've learned to love.
The ways you've learned to protect yourself.
The wounds you carry.
The hopes you still have for one another.
Couples therapy gives us space to understand those stories with compassion instead of blame.
While this work isn't always easy, it can help you build greater understanding, emotional safety, and lasting connection.

While couples therapy is most effective when both partners participate, there may be times when individual sessions are helpful to support the work we're doing together. These sessions are intended to strengthen the therapeutic process rather than replace couples therapy. We'll discuss together whether individual sessions would be beneficial for your situation.
